RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) – Virginia Commonwealth College has paused a branded beer initiative with Hardywood Park Craft Brewery after a request from the Adam Oakes household.
“VCU’s branded beer initiative was created with the perfect intentions: to fund scholar scholarships,” VCU stated in a press release Thursday. “After listening to from members of our college group, together with the household of Adam Oakes on Wednesday, we’ve got paused this initiative.”
Earlier this week, longtime professor Dr. Everett Carpenter stated the college’s branding and trademark coverage explicitly prohibits placing the VCU model on beer or alcoholic drinks.
VCU is transferring ahead with the launch of a branded beer with Hardywood, allegedly going towards the needs of the College Council and plenty of school members.
“I feel this can be a prime instance of VCU’s administration not listening and placing out a nasty message,” Carpenter stated.
Oakes is the freshman who died after a hazing incident in 2021.
“The truth that VCU is placing out a branded beer proper after that,” VCU Senior Arlo Beland stated earlier this week. “That timing is so horrible.”
VCU stated Thursday that the beer is out there, however “we’ll work with our companion to cease manufacturing, efficient instantly. We worth our group and have taken this motion based mostly on their issues.”
