Stephen Colbert can look forward to a few more golden years on The Late Show. It was confirmed this month that Colbert will continue his famed run as host for another three years. Up until the announcment, there was a possibility he’d move on to a new adventure and possibly a streaming deal to join the likes of Jon Stewart and David Letterman.

Instead though, the host appears keen to stay on at CBS. In all fairness, Colbert still ranks as one of late night’s most popular names alogside Jimmy Fallon and Greg Gutfeld.

A recent YouTube clip however had some harsh commentary on the host, calling his interviewing style ‘mediocre’ at times. The video labelled, ‘The Death of Late Night TV’ addressed the star’s breakthrough show, The Colbert Report which aired a far more neiche and satirical form of monologues and sit down discussions.

Was Colbert better on Comedy Central?

Commentator, Eddy Burback claimed: “Stephen’s comedy when it’s not character based is just really not for me,” commentator, Eddy Burback told viewers.

The YouTube star was far more critical of hosts such as James Corden and Jimmy Fallon, who already face a sizeable amount of viewer backlash.

Jimmy Fallon was only recently making headlines after the Tonight Show host was accused of skipping a work meeting where writers pay was discussed.

At the beginning of May, the union representing Hollywood writers voted to strike, leaving late night television off the air for some time. Despite airing support for his writers publically, Sarah Kobos, an employee on the late night show, called out Fallon for not appearing at the internal discussions on the matter.

As for the prospects of The Tonight Show and The Late Show returning, both CBS and NBC have given no indication of when we can expect to see both hosts return to their normal duties.

Look out for an update on when late night will return right here on LastNightOn!
